Counting

Not everything that can be counted counts, not everything that counts can be counted.

A quote that sums up so much of life (no pun intended). There is a lot that we can quantify in life – money, friends, lovers, material goods. But often, these “countable” things are not what should matter in the long run. On the other hand, things that cannot be counted, like the feeling of love, depth of a friendship, impact on someone’s life, can play such an important role in life.

I think at the end of the day, what matters most is not doing more and getting more, subjecting ourselves to a never-ending race to “success.” But instead, to consider what sort of impact we hope to make. What is our vision for life? What are our values? How do we start siphoning through what counts, and what does not? There is no right or wrong answer. And oftentimes, we’ll start noticing that being countable does not truly reflect something’s inherent worth.

Have you seen instances of this in your own life? Would love to read what you guys think.
