Begin Again

I loved it when you hugged me out of the blue,

the warmth that enveloped, the smell that lingered,

how we pretended to know, but really had no clue

about some obscure emotion I was too afraid to feel,

But we cared and tried to uphold the truth,

always a fine line between the imagined and real,

So we sauntered on blissfully,

piecing our hands together, until

they felt just right, your strong and calloused

against my small and delicate,

And I’d sing some obsolete tune,

squeeze your hand a bit too tight,

wonder about stupid things too soon,

And you’d pour out your demons

but never your heart, oh please

darling just take me back to the start,

Now every damn song, the stars, my scars

travels back to you.
