She used to eat cherries by biting the edges methodically, working around the core until all the flesh was stripped away.
Now, she pops its entirety into her mouth– savage bites, red juice oozing through teeth– the core becomes a mere afterthought, still covered in saliva when spit out.
“Cherries are in season this summer,” he said, and she smiled at the ludicrous statement because they always are.
