they call us the lost stars
who ran across the sky,
glitter and gold on our skin
jewels and crowns on our heads
wonder and hope in our hearts.
but like dawn breaks night
our sparkle dimmed as daylight
brought truth to our scars,
to every sin and white lie,
every ego wish called a dream.
now we lay awake in pretend sleep,
praying to a force, quantum law, or God:
is this it, this life we wanted to sparkle in?
please tell us what to wish for.
